Character slots are here to help us players not overwhelm ourselves. It also helps staff from being overworked by an abundance of breeding happening. Everyone here on Vive begins with ten (10) character slots. For every one hundred (100) posts, another slot is unlocked for that player. You may notice that some members with less than five hundred posts appear to have fifteen character slots or more and this was for those that returned to the site when it reopened in April 2020.
Mutation Caps correspond with the generation of a character. If you are a new member, you are likely to begin with a Vivian from the Start from Scratch! board. These are all generation one. It means they are born from the world of Vive and not parents. Two generation one Vivians breeding may result in a generation two Vivian, which would increase the amount of markings and mutations they may inherit or have purchased for them.
Generation 1: 2 Mutations + 2 Markings
Generation 2: 3 Mutations + 3 Markings
Generation 3: 5 Mutations + 5 Markings
Generation 4: 7 Mutations + 7 Markings
Generation 5: 10 Mutations + 10 Markings
Generation 6: 15 Mutations + 15 Markings
Generation 7: 20 Mutations + 20 Markings
Generation 8: 25 Mutations + 25 Markings
Generation 9: 35 Mutations + 35 Markings
Generation 10: 50 Mutations + 50 Markings
To cover the generation topic, this is not quite the same as generations in the real world. On Vive, generations are inherited similarly to mutations and markings. If a second generation (gen 2) Vivian breeds with a sixth generation (gen 6) Vivian, their offspring can range from the lower generation to the higher generation, plus one. So, in this example, 2-7. This is randomized by moderators that handle your breeding. Currently, generation 10 is our highest planned generation. This may or may not be revisited later on.
