It had taken a few days after Enestra and the others were "born" - long enough for her to get to know herself and all the different corners of Arbor's Reach - before she was ready to explore a bit beyond the limits of the safe haven. Change and newness... such unwelcome concepts, but the world has been so full of them so far. And in this case today a little adventure was necessary, she thought, because there was a magic fizzling in the air back at the hollow. One she remembered coloring the hazy memories of her own pod and the innards of the great tree, long before she'd had the mind to notice it. Another sprout was on it's way. She could feel it.
It would get cramped, no doubt, and it was repulsion at that idea that drew Enestra out into the cold. She was slithering along in the snow, finding that the icy nip actually wasn't as bothersome as she'd anticipated, which was something! Maybe her scales were just made for this place. She was grown specifically for it, after all. Enestra was careful not to stray too far from the Reach's borders regardless, instead taking in the new sights and sounds and enjoying a few moments of alone time, wondering what was out there even further still.
Putting her snout to the ground, the green scale sniffed and prodded at the powdery white below, leaving behind a curvy indentation in her wake. Completely in her own world, she even stuck her head fully into it at one point, blinking away the moisture that caught in her eyes. "Hmm..." There wasn't much else out here but this snow stuff, as far as she could find, but then an idea struck! Enestra burrowed herself downward, leaving behind a thin tunnel until she was nearer to the soil below, and started wiggling around 'til she carved out a little nook for herself. Even surrounded by white walls of snow it was warmer in here already from blocking the relentless winds and preserving her own body heat. She grinned into the empty nook, proud at this new invention of hers. Perhaps she could travel to and fro underground out here, invisible from above, and dig out little spaces to sleep along the way. Excited, she began digging more pathways, interconnecting and winding, at one point so pleased with herself she started to hum as she worked. She wasn't too far out from the hollow after all, what could possibly go wrong for her and her new little snow-house?
