Okay so, quick rundown who wasn't in the discord at the time this was being discussed: I want to start a group known as the village. There's a couple reasons/goals I have in mind for starting this group:
- There aren't any groups yet on the northern continent
- With how dangerous the fauna is, I want to have a group to help keep each other safe and also protect vivians who don't yet know how to fight for themselves
- Larger numbers also means more body heat and warmth
- If the group eventually becomes a kingdom, that means having the ability to begin attempting to tame some of the larger fauna of the continent! Potentially making it less dangerous and more hospitable in the future!
This thread is going to detail the group's structure, organization, and members, all listed below. Reply to this thread with comments, suggestions, and characters you'd like to add to the group, along with what roles you'd like them to have! I'll post a reply to this thread when I set up the actual recruiting post!
The group would most likely be based in Arbor's Reach, as it has the most abundant food and easily tamable animals, but their territory would also likely include a large portion of the wastelands since it hosts most of the dangerous fauna they want to protect other vivians from. The village would mostly remain a hunter-gatherer type group unless we get a more easily farm able food source in the northern continent. Most of the houses would consist of hollowed out trees and tunnels dug into the ground, with a food pile in the center. Unlike warriors, members would be able to choose who they live with rather than living in the same den as others of their role. Given that it's supposed to be more of a settlement rather than a group, the rules would most likely be very lax, with the only major one being no one shall harm any other (in the group or not) creature unless it attacks first. The group is meant to be pacifists until they can't be. The only exception to this rule would be hunting food for carnivores of the group.
I don't think I want the village to have very strict roles. I'd almost imagine something like warriors where there's a couple different roles people can take on, but most of the roles can do several different jobs. The jobs that would actually need to be done include:
- Patrolling territory
- Gathering food
- Hunting food
- Guarding camp
- Healing sick and injured members
- Training younger/newer members of the group how to do various tasks
- Digging and hollowing out homes for new members
- Possibly taming and caring for creatures
Here's my current list of roles (in order of rank, highest to lowest) along with what jobs they do. I'm still not sure about some of the role names so feel free to give comments and suggestions in your replies! (Character names will include links to their log posts so I don't have to copy everything over)
- Chief: The leader of the village. They are in charge of assigning roles and ensuring that the village remains peaceful. (Keeper)
- Shamans: The equivalent of medics and healers. They gather herbs and help heal sick and injured vivians. They also take care of the elders and assist in creating children. They are supposed to have a strong connection with nature and a lot of knowledge about the flora and fauna of vive. They travel the farthest out of anyone in the village, sometimes gone for seasons at a time to collect plants. There should only be 2-3 at a time. (Kaja)
- Elders: Adults who are too weak to help with village duties for any reason. Along with the advisors, they help give the leader advice. (None)
- Advisors: There will always be exactly two(2) advisors chosen by the leader at any given time. The advisors job is pretty self explanatory; they help advise the leader when making decisions. When not serving as advisors, they can choose any role below them to work as. (excluding young) The older of the two will assume the position of leader when the leader either dies or goes missing. (Marie)
- Mentors: Mentors act as teachers and trainers to the young. One mentor can take on multiple young at once, and will teach them about the world of vive (like a cave or tree guide), but with the added addition of watching them while their parents work and teaching them how to fight. They will choose what jobs the young go into once they are old enough. (None)
- Caretakers: Caretakers would likely be in charge of doing more domestic chores around the village such as cleaning, making new houses, domesticating and taking care of domesticated fauna, and growing plants once there are farmable plants on the northern continent. (Prospero, Mellifluous, Orna)
- Scouts: They would be in charge of collecting food, both gathering and hunting. (Phoenix, Salacia)
- Warriors: Warriors main job would be to patrol territory and guard the camp. They would mostly fight off dangerous fauna, but they might also take sick and injured vivians back to camp to have them cared for and spread word of the village to wandering vivians and new sproutborns. (Sora)
- Young: Members of the village that are either under two(2) seasons old, or vivians that have been in the group less than one(1) season and have not shown themselves to be capable of knowing how to fight. Once they reach either 2 seasons old or 1 season within the group, they will be assigned a role by their mentor and will then be taught the specifics of their role by the more experienced members of that role. *Note: the founders of the village do not need to go through this process, only members who join the group in the seasons after its creation. This process may also be skipped if there are currently no mentors, group numbers are under 8, or they are shown to be capable of fighting prior to joining the group. (None)
